Golf

Overview

Aragon’s golf courses reflect the geographical diversity of this region. The Pyrenees and the “Iberian System” mountain range form a magnificent backdrop to some of the courses. There are six courses. The following notes are taken from the Spanish Royal Golf Federation’s website:
www.golfspain.com/index2.htm

Augusta Golf Calatayud
The golf course, with its 9 holes, a par of 36 and 3,000m in length, is the main attraction of the sports complex. The practice course with its 30 stands on two levels, large areas to learn and practise the different shots, and its teaching room, provide excellent facilities for pupils to learn the various techniques used in golf. The golf course at Augusta Golf Calatayud is very demanding, with some holes almost 500 metres in length and with small greens. The course runs through a residential estate and faces the city of Calatayud, lying between mountains and with unbeatable natural scenery, with Ayud castle and the Roman ruins of Bílbilis in the background. The course has been officially approved by the Spanish Golf Federation as meeting the standard required to host all kinds of local and national golf events, and, when the 18 holes are finished, major international tournaments too.

Benasque Club
The Benasque Valley is one of the most beautiful parts of the Pyrenean landscape. In fact, a large part of it makes up the Posets-Maladeta National Park, created in 1994 for the purposes of safeguarding the valley’s natural wealth: its fauna, its flora, its landscapes and its geological formations. Benasque also offers its visitors a wide range of activities in an unbeatable natural setting.

Club de Golf La Peñaza
Situated on the outskirts of Zaragoza, La Peñaza Golf Club has an 18-hole course. In comparison with the arid dry natural landscape which surrounds the course the club appears as a true oasis of greenery. The course has a par of 72 and is moderately difficult. When the north wind, which is typical in the region and known as the "cierzo", is blowing, the course becomes extremely difficult for players of all kinds. Opened in 1973, the La Peñaza Golf Club has, in addition to its 18 holes, other facilities such as swimming pools, tennis, paddle tennis, and “pelota” courts, and covers an area of 100 hectares.

Golf Guara
The course currently has 9 holes, but may be extended to 18 holes in the near future. The only water hazard is a small lake on the 5th. The course is situated in natural surroundings of unsurpassable beauty and offers complete relaxation. Its excellent location makes it an ideal starting point for those wishing to enjoy the wonders of the Aragonese Pyrenees.

Golf Los Lagos
The course at Golf Los Lagos is made up of 18 holes with a par of 72, and offers an enjoyable round with numerous water hazards, as well as a large practice and putting green. The course combines some long holes with other shorter ones. The majority of the greens on the course are protected by water or bunkers and, in many cases, by both. A course on which big hitters will have to fall back more on their short game, and ensure greater control of the ball, leaving aside power and adopting an approach of maximum precaution - a course to be enjoyed.

Real Aeroclub de Zaragoza
This course at the Royal Zaragoza Airclub is deceptive at first sight, because some of the holes are short, the fairways are narrow and the greens are small and well protected by strategically placed bunkers. As well as being small, the greens also have hidden slopes, so you have to know how to read them well to get the ball in the hole. The course is heavily affected by the north wind which blows down the Ebro valley from west to east, and makes play extremely difficult on windy days.
